Description

Course Objectives:

1. Explain the principles of respiratory physiology and mechanics relevant to ventilatory support.
2. Identify the clinical features of acute respiratory failure and appropriate indications for noninvasive and invasive respiratory support.
3. Describe and apply the use, initiation, monitoring, and management of noninvasive respiratory support modalities.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of invasive mechanical ventilation, including:
   • Technical setup and interpretation of ventilator waveforms
   • Selection and adjustment of ventilator modes
   • Initiation of ventilation with a focus on patient-centered strategies
   • Monitoring parameters and managing changes in patient condition
5. Implement lung-protective ventilation strategies to minimize ventilator-induced lung injury.
6. Recognize and manage patient-ventilator asynchrony to optimize comfort and ventilation effectiveness.
7. Integrate adjunctive therapies and interventions into the management plan when clinically indicated.
8. Develop and execute appropriate weaning plans, including strategies for post-extubation care.
9. Apply clinical knowledge in realistic scenarios using interactive, simulation-based case studies to reinforce decision-making and problem-solving skills
